  17. <p>     Perhaps the reason Carolyn Suzanne Sapp cried when she was
  18. crowned this year's Miss America is that she knew what was
  19. coming. Just a few days into her reign, Sapp became Miss
  20. Controversy: there were rumors of a romance with Donald Trump,
  21. an unearthed tape of her racily modeling bikinis and some nasty
  22. comments from a disgruntled fellow competitor. But the most
  23. serious revelation was that last year Sapp sought a restraining
  24. order against a boyfriend she claimed had beaten her. That
  25. ordeal, she says, is behind her. "I am a strong person," insists
  26. Sapp. "And I had enough courage to leave a relationship that
  27. wasn't healthy."
